I have the Brother cs6000i And it works great. I have had mine for 10 yrs. I have made many quilts , doll clothes ,curtains and mended lots of clothes. It has lots of decorative stitches. It’s just like what the peson said it is. And I love it.
I’ve had the Brother cs6000 since 2005. For the past 10 years I’ve only used it for small jobs. It’s useless in quilting, short of nailing it down to the table, I have not found a way to keep it from sliding around when quilting. Have tried mats, weights behind it, everything. It’s only good for traveling because of the weight, or lack thereof. Finally am able to sell it, and going back to a Singer.
I was surprised that there were no Baby Lock or Bernina or Husqvarna sewing machines on this list.

The brother Laura Ashley machine you have pictured is not a $200 machine. The CX155LA model is the $200 option. The one pictured is about $645-$715 depending on where you buy. I own a CX155LA and it’s fantastic for this beginner. I quilt with it, make aprons, and handbags also. when shopping for a machine look for a local shop that you can purchase and also get the support you need as well as maintenance. Good ones offer free basic classes on using your machine free. There are many good machines out there, but if you don’t know how to use or have a reliable place to take for repairs a $12,000 machine is no more useful than a $200 machine. I personally
love my Bernina and our local dealer who provides training, support, and repair professionals.
